Holborn Community Association was first established in 1989, marking 2024 as our 35th birthday!

HCA came into being with the aim of bringing together the local community, to improve the health and well being of it’s people.

Over that time HCA have consistently been at the heart of the community supporting people through our lifetime offer of support.

We’ve had a lot of changes, including a complete renovation of what was then Bedford House to Holborn House. Our mission, vision and values however, remain the same.

To mark our birthday we held a series of events in September to celebrate our work and the impact we have on people’s lives across the area.

This included a sensory play session for under 5’s and families, a drinks reception for partners, funders and supporters, a storybank session and a family art party. We also had open house tours showcasing the importance of community spaces. We had an amazing week of commemorating the acheivements and journey of Holborn Community Association, thank you all who celebrated with us.

Have a look at our about us page to find out more info about us and what we do.

If you would like to support us, check out our sponsor us page.

We appreciate all of your support to help us continue doing the fantastic work that we do.

A part of commemorating our 35 year celebrations, we will be continuing to add to our story bank.  We’ll be collecting and showcasing stories, journeys and memories from the local community and what Holborn Community means to them.

Here’s a few we’ve captured already:

We’ve already begun speaking with our community about their memories of HCA and the local area.

“I loved shopping in Leather Lane which, in the 1970s was an old  Street Market where, on winter days, lights would go on and one could smell paraffin heaters used by marketeers.Red Lion Square was another favourite for office workers. After shopping at Tesco down Lambs Conduit Street for green shield stamps I would sit in front of the beady-eyed bust of Bertram Russell or wander down to Lincolns Inn or Staples Inn or to The temple Gardens to eat my sandwiches”

I was born on the Bourne Estate over 70 years ago. Before Holborn House was renamed and beautifully designed, I attended Bedford House twice a week as a 12 year old in 1965 for Judo and dancing which was on the top floor, to reggae music”

The combination of my physical illness combined with becoming my mother left me with little time, energy or impetus to continue exercising. The isolation of the pandemic made things worse. Through attending Women’s Yoga, I have slowly found my physical confidence again’ – community member”
