It’s day four of Volunteers’ Week and today is all about volunteer voices.

Volunteer Chris who shared with us how the gardening team (Chris, Lilly and Geoff) have since 2018 transformed a slice of unloved urban oasis at our Millman Street site into a beautiful space for our over 55’s community and beyond to enjoy.

“Together we have done an extensive restoration and refurbishment. We started by pruning and trimming trees and bushes and the removal of an enormous amount of rubbish. During the spring 2020 lockdown I relined and restored the raised plant beds and built the garden toolbox from a disused plant box. I have also built some planter boxes, two pedestal tables and the table on the benches to encourage social distancing. All made from scrap wood! In 2021 we moved onto the cleaning of the patio tiles and ramp followed with planting of new flowers and shrubs. The garden is now a much nicer place to enjoy!”
