David is 19 years old and came on a 2-week work placement to Millman Street Community Centre organised by ADC College.
Millman Street provides a range of activities and services to the over 55’s, from a daily lunch club to a packed activity schedule that brings people together, learn new things, keep active and healthy and most importantly – have fun.
“I am from Prague. I have been to London before, but I have really enjoyed coming back and travelling by myself. On this work experience placement, you get to practise your English and experience a new culture. I was placed at Millman Street at random. I have been helping out with the day to day, chatting to people, washing up, serving tea, getting involved with the activities and playing games. On my first day, I was a bit shy but we soon got to know each other.
Everyone has been really kind to me, it is clear that the Millman Street members enjoy coming here. I have learnt by spending time here the difference it makes to not only looking out for people’s physical health but also their mental wellbeing too.
I have been having good chats with the members and joking with David about football. Norman and I have been talking about the political situation here and comparing the differences. We have also been sharing experiences and life tips – like the key to a good marriage!”
