This February our Sunday Social for the 60+ gave 8 members of our local community the opportunity to create their very own short animated film in under two hours.
Titled “This is Ball” participants were set the challenge of creating a day in the life of a ball using basic animation techniques, taking place at our Older People’s Resource Centre at Millman Street.
Narrated by the wonderful Louise we see ‘ball’ getting involved with a series of activities, including a football game, a bowling alley and a golf course. This is (rather understandably) very tiring for ‘ball’ and as Louise puts it “ball rolls home worn out and goes straight to bed”.
The session was led by talented Nigel Kellaway, who is a film-maker, graphic designer, youth worker and educator – working and creating in North London.
Hazel East, 1A Arts Manager and facilitator of the Sunday Socials project says “all eight participants had never done animation before and really enjoyed it. There was great surprise what you could do in such a short space of time”.
Sunday Socials are free monthly creative workshops for people aged 60+. Providing a social opportunity to get people out of the house on a Sunday which can be a typically lonely day of the week, open people up to new skills and ideas using art based activities. Previous socials have seen participants get involved with singing, mono printing, weaving and paper sculpture.
The next session will be photography and will take place on Sunday 31st March
